![]() I base my discussion around four interrelated themes: (1) dependence on technology for educational success, (2) inequitable access to technology, (3) limitations of standardised assessment technology, and (4) prioritisation of vocational and technological skills over broader educational aims. ![]() This essay aims to mostly bypass questions of Asimov's intention and focus instead on the relevance of "Profession" for problematising the use of technology in education. While some see the novella as motivated foremost by "a desire to share his belief in the benefits of technology" (Rose 1), others interpret the tale as warning of the potential ramifications of technological development and limitations of technology in educational settings (Andrews 346 Matusov et al. Critics are divided over Isaac Asimov's thematic aims in "Profession".
